Why Don’t We Sell Hawthorn?

Why We Don't Sell Hawthorn

New European legislation came in to force on 30th April 2011 and this has had implications for our herbal supplement, Hawthorn.

The new European Directive (2204/24/EC) required some of our herbs to be registered as Traditional Herbal Medicines for which a dossier of information was required to fulfil the terms of the licence. This is an extremely expensive and lengthy process, and we have applied and been successful in launching 5 THR herbal supplements to date. Click here to read more about our Traditional Herbal Medicines and why we believe they are unique from our competitors:

In the case of Hawthorn however, a THR licence will not be granted, since the MHRA deem this herb to require a full drug licence, the cost of which is prohibitive. Thankfully, there are some excellent alternative supplements within our range, the most popular of which are shown below. If you would like to discuss your supplement regime in more detail, please feel free to speak to one of our Nutrition Advisors by calling 01892 552175) or send them an e-mail.

Pure Fish Oil 1300mg (Omega 3s)

Research has repeatedly shown that Omega 3s are good for the heart and circulatory system, as they help to keep levels of triglycerides (blood fats) in check. Many of us don’t eat oily fish regularly and if you are one of these people, then our Fish Oil 1300mg Omega 3 supplement is an excellent choice. The recommended daily dosage we should be aiming for is 1 gram of Omega 3s (equivalent to one of our high strength Fish Oil capsules). However, the latest research indicates that Omega 3s DHA plays an important role in helping to maintain normal blood pressure. A beneficial effect can be obtained with a daily intake of 3g/day of Fish Oil 1300mg, and 2 portions of oily fish per week.

MagAsorb Ultra®

Again, another great supplement for heart health, magnesium helps to relax the blood vessels, which helps improve circulation not only to the heart but to all areas of the body as well as being involved in the body’s blood clotting mechanism. Magnesium is recognised as being a nutrient that can be in short supply in diets that are low in whole grains, nuts and green vegetables and official data indicates a staggering 7/10 of women and 4/10 of men in the UK fail to consume sufficient dietary magnesium. Two MagAsorb Ultra® tablets provide 300mg of top grade magnesium, which goes along way towards meeting the NRV of 375mg.

CoQ10 100mg

This nutrient is found in the mitochondria of our cells where it plays an essential role in energy production. Not surprisingly large concentrations are found in the heart, which is highly dependent on CoQ10 for its correct functioning. CoQ10 is believed to help reverse some of the side effects reported by people on cholesterol lowering Statin drugs, such as muscle pain and fatigue. For this reason, many of our customers choose to add CoQ10 to their daily supplement regime, with CoQ10 100mg being the most popular potency.
