Given its role in countless biological processes, vitamin B12 is an essential member of the B complex family. It contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue, supports cell division and red blood cell formation, and safeguards the immune system.
Working with folic acid, vitamin B12 helps the body keep homocysteine levels low – an amino acid-like substance that could contribute to heart problems if left unchecked. Generally speaking, we would recommend taking a vitamin B12 supplement to the elderly, who may have a compromised diet, and to vegetarians and vegans because it’s most abundant in animal-based foods.
