Canesten Oral Capsule 150mg contains the active ingredient fluconazole. Fluconazole belongs to a group of medicines called azoles, which is an anti-fungal agent that treats many types of fungal infections, such as thrush. Fluconazole can also be used to prevent fungal infections in people whose immune system is not working properly. Thrush is an infection caused by a yeast called Candida. This yeast normally exists in your body quite happily without causing any harm, however when the natural pH balance of the vagina is upset, candida can multiply. At this point, symptoms of itching may occur and the development of thrush can manifest. It is important that a thrush infection is treated internally as well as externally, to prevent any symptoms from returning.
Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water (with or without food). If symptoms persist for more than 7 days, see your doctor.
