Why we’ve chosen plant-based not animal sourced chondroitin
Typically, chondroitin is sourced from shark species, however, worldwide demand for shark cartilage has meant the depletion of the global shark population and sadly the loss of many of these beautiful creatures from our oceans. Bovine chondroitin is one alternative, but less acceptable in a world where animal-based products can be easily substituted with plant-based sources, which are far more sustainable and don’t impact on animal welfare. Thanks to product development we’re now able to transition away from animal-based chondroitin to a plant-based material which delivers all the expectations of the traditional source.
Our 100% plant-based alternative to animal-based chondroitin, Phytodroitin™, is registered with the Vegan Society and Vegetarian Society and mimics the structure and composition of chondroitin. All compounds are obtained from European sources, and Phytodroitin™ is produced in the UK.
