Friend of the Sea

Besides providing our customers with the highest level of quality and potency, we also ensure our fish oil supplements have been sourced responsibly from well-managed fisheries. To demonstrate our unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability, our fish oil range has achieved certification by the internationally recognised body, Friend of the Sea.

In recent years, sustainability has become increasingly pertinent to the omega-3 industry. Let’s not forget much of our existence relies on the oceans. Not only do 60 per cent of the world’s population reside in coastal areas, but millions of people also depend on it as a source of nutrition and income. Our marine ecosystems are in a dangerously precarious state, too. Pollution, habitat destruction, and ocean acidification caused by irresponsible fishing have impelled a sharp decline in the health of our seas. And yet, the global demand for seafood is growing at an exponential rate. Clearly, this is a problem we need to look squarely in the eye.

All things considered, the sustainable management of our oceans is the only viable way to secure their future and precious resources. And this is precisely what Friend of the Sea is striving for. Its mission is to safeguard aquatic resources by encouraging responsible practices in fishing, aquaculture, and nutraceutical products. The organisation collaborates with a host of nation-states, scientists, NGOs, shipping and seafood industries, and the public to mobilise a global sustainability movement and cultivate a circular economy.

The Friend of the Sea badge on our omega-3 supplements reassures customers the fisheries in our supply chain are operating in a responsible and sustainable way; they aren’t involved in overfishing, catching endangered species, or illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing – all of which conspire to damage our oceans. Simply put, this certification means the fish oil in our omega-3 supplements derives from eco-friendly fisheries that tread carefully on the environment around them. To achieve the certification, both the production site and supply chain are scrupulously audited by independent international certification bodies against strict sustainability criteria.

The Friend of the Sea golden standards for sustainable nutraceuticals is:

  • Well-managed sources of fish oil and fishmeal ingredients
  • No GMO
  • Traceability
  • Social accountability
