Vitamin A and Beta Carotene

Vitamin A occurs in nature in two forms as retinol and as carotene. Retinol is preformed vitamin A and is only found in foods of animal origin such as liver and fish oils and is produced by animals from beta carotene. Beta Carotene is found in green vegetables and carrots and our bodies are also able to convert it into vitamin A. Over 90% of the bodys vitamin A is stored in the liver.
Vitamin A is needed for:

  • the mucous membranes of the lungs, throat, nose and mouth
  • a healthy immune system
  • healthy, moist eyes and vision  
  • the formation of blood, bones and teeth
