In some European countries Carnitine is a hugely popular supplement, and is popular with people engaged in sport and exercise. This amino acid plays an essential role in the production of energy. It transports fatty acids into the mitochondria, which are the 'powerhouse' of the cell, where they are oxidised for the release of energy, which the body uses to power muscle contraction.
