Pet Nutrition

The trouble is that both dogs and cats are like kids when it comes to nutrition; the first hint that you're trying to give them something nutritious will result in that 'you've got to be joking' expression. In fact Mr Tibbles had sussed out your game before you'd even got the lid off the pot. And dogs do that thing where they can wolf down their meal, but leave the tablet you'd hidden in the food, sitting in the middle of the bowl.

To get around this, pet supplements are often formulated to be tasty, rather than nutritious, and many of the ones we checked out weren't worth bothering with. This is a shame as there are good reasons to supplement pets' diets, because although petfoods have added vitamins and minerals, they are often at very low levels. And other important nutrients such as Omega 3 fatty acids are ignored, due to both cost and instability. (Omega 3s go rancid when exposed to air, so dry 'complete' diets will contain little of these nutrients.) So our pet nutrition expert has come up with a few suggestions for how you might use Nature's Best products to supplement your pets' diets. We're leaving it up to you to find a way to get them to take them.

Pet Nutrition Tips

Settle Their Nerves - Try L-Theanine for anxiety. One of our staff thinks it's worked wonders for their rescued Collie cross. Small dogs: 1/2 tablet per day. Medium to large dogs: 1 tablet per day.

Keeping Them Bright - If you've noticed that they've become forgetful of routines, or confused, it is worth trying Ginkgo. A trial showed that for many dogs this herb worked well for correcting age-related behaviour changes. The dose used was 40mg of Ginkgo per 10kg weight per day. Our Ginkgo 6000 tablets each contain 120mg so you will need to split them. Don't worry about accuracy – Ginkgo isn't a drug! And if you have trouble working out the dose, perhaps it's you who should be taking the Ginkgo!
